My Other Ch4 Sonadow

I was about to fall asleep as well… until the landline began ringing down stairs.
I jumped up and rushed down the stairs to the kitchen. I picked up the phone and answered, "Shadow here… what do you want?!" I growled.
"it's Flame. From the hospital." She spoke back growling as well.
"oh," I sighed, "what now?" I said in a monotone voice.
she sighed, "its just that…" she paused, "Sonic isn't around you is he?"
"no."
"okay well, you see in 10 days, there's an opening in one of our doctors schedules and he said that it would be for the best if we… you know… amputate his legs. "
that word 'amputate' made me shudder. 'he's not going to take this well AT ALL!' I screamed in my mind. "I guess it is for the best but… getting him to go…"
She sighed heavily, "I know, but his legs are just dead weight. Break it to him slowly." With that being said, she hung up. I just stood there with the phone pressed against my ear, listening to the continuous beeps.
I set the phone back into its holder and walked back up to the room, dreading what I had to tell.

I knocked on the door before entering, he managed to sit up.
"hey Shads." He greeted with a warm smile.
I did nothing but nod my head in response. I walked over to his side and sat down.
"Sonic, I need to tell you something." I started, feeling a lump forming in my throat.
"yeah, me too!" he laughed cheerfully.
I nodded, "you first."
"get up and take these sheets off me." He stated before adding, "please?"
I smiled and did as I was told.
"look at my feet." He smiled.
I pulled a face, "wh-what?!"
"Just do it!" he shouted back, annoyed.
I watched… he started moving his toes.
I gasped, "Sonic?!"
he laughed, full of joy and happiness. "I can move my toes Shadow! I can MOVE them!!" I could see that in his mind, he was doing cartwheels and backflips, overflowing with joy.
Sonic looked at me, "your turn. What did you want to tell me?"
I sighed, this would break his spirit but I had too. "Sonic, in 10 days, you have to go back to the hospital so they can," I swallowed hard, "amputate your legs."
that cheerful smile broke, it was washed away by a sea of salty tears running down his face.
"N-n-no!!!!" he weakly screamed, "NO!" he smashed his fists onto the bed. "NO! No! NO!!! I wont! I wont, I wont, I WONT!"
I put my hands onto his shoulders to get him to calm his rant down.
he curled his hand into a fist and landed it in my chest. I stumbled back, landing on my backside.
I looked up at him, he was shacking, his eyes wide, wet from tears. He leaned his head back, "Noooooo….!!!!" He wailed, pouring all his heart break out.

I got up and rushed to his side, cradling him in my arms.

"its okay Sonic, its okay…" I cooed into his ear, stroking his quills and up and down his back.
his tears stopped and he looked up at me, "guess this is it, huh?"
"don't act like you're dying." I shook my head.
"but I feel like it…" he nuzzled my neck, the last few tears he had, wetting my fur.

"I'm sorry Sonic…" I whispered into his ear. I looked out the window, 'I will make these 10 days… the best days… he's ever had.' I smiled warmly… something I rarely did.
